What Is The Primrose Stitch?

The Primrose Stitch is a combination of single crochet rows and double crochet rows with an ocassional Half Double Crochet to create the flower-like clusters full of definition and texture.

If you have mastered these primary stitches then the primrose stitch will be easy to learn!

How To Crochet The Primrose Stitch

The Primrose Stitch is worked in multiples of 3 + 2.

For this tutorial we are working in rows. All beginning ch1 DO NOT count as a stitch, all beginning ch2 DO count as a stitch.

Crochet Primrose Stitch Written Instructions

Row 1: Sc in the third chain from the hook (skipped chs count as a st), ch2, sc in the same ch as the first sc, *sk next 2 chs, (sc, ch2, sc) in the next ch*, repeat across, when 2 chs remain sk 1 ch, hdc in the last ch, ch3, turn.

Row 2: (ch 3 counts as a stitch from here and throughout) 3dc in the first ch2sp between sc from the previous row, 3 dc in each ch2sp across, dc in the top of the sk chs from the beginning of row 1, ch1, turn.

Row 3: hdc in the first st, sk 1 st, (sc, ch2, sc) in the middle dc from the previous row, *sk 2 sts, (sc, ch2, sc) in the middle dc from the previous row*, repeat across, hdc in the top of the ch3, ch3, turn.

Continue to repeat rows 2 & 3 to your desired size!
