Easy Gender Neutral Beanie

The Fairbrook Beanie is a super quick pattern using post stitches for a modern look and great texture.

The pattern is worked bottom up and can be adjusted for the perfect fit. By adding or subtracting rows on the brim to get the correct circumference or adding rounds to the body of the hat to get the perfect height, you can easily make one for any size or fit.

The Pattern

Teen/Adult small

Brim – Use 5.0 mm hook

Ch 7

Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across (6).

Row 2-36: Hdcblo in each st across, ch1, turn (6).

Continue until you’ve reached a brim length about 18″ with slight stretch. For me this was a total of 36 rows. Do more or less until you have reached the right measurements.

Once rows are complete, bring ends together and slst closed, being careful not to twist the brim. Turn/flip so seam is on the inside, ch1 to begin body of the hat.

Body – Use 6.0 mm hook

Rnd 1: Hdc evenly around brim, increasing by 4 sts, slst to the top of the first st to join, ch1 (40).

Rnd 2: Hdc in each st around, slst to the top of the first st to join, ch1 (40).

Rnd 3: Hdc in the first st, hdc in next 2 sts, FPdc around hdc below from rnd 1 (skipping over row 2), *hdc in next 3 sts, FPdc in the next st*, repeat around, slst to the top of the first st to join, ch1 (40).

Rnd 4: Hdc in each st around, slst to the top of the first st to join, ch1 (40).

Rnd 5: Hdc in the first st, hdc in next 2 sts, FPdc around the stem of the FPdc in the previous rnd, skip st behind the FPdc, *hdc in the next 3 sts, FPdc in the next st*, repeat around, slst to the top of the first st to join, ch1 (40).

Rnd 6-12: Repeat rnd 4&5, ending with a repeat of rnd 4

Rnd 13: *Hdc2tog, hdc in the next st, FPdc around the stem of the FPdc in the previous rnd* repeat around, slst to the top of the first st to join, ch1 (30).

Rnd 14: Hdc in each st around, slst to the top of the first st to join, ch1 (30).

Rnd 15: Hdc2tog, FPdc around the stem of the FPdc in the previous rnd* repeat around, slst to the top of the first st to join, ch1 (20).

Rnd 16: Hdc in each st around, slst to the top of the first st to join, ch1 (20).

Rnd 17: *HdcFPdc2tog*, repeat around, slst to the top of the first st to join, ch1 (10).

Rnd 18: Hdc in each st around, slst to the top of the first st to join, tie off leaving long tail to sew top closed (10).

Weave in all ends, and you’re done!
