I’m always in need of a hot pads in my kitchen, but wanted something with a bit more rustic charm and that would still allow some airflow so the hot surface would continue to cool quickly. Then it came to me, the Trellis Trivet!

Rustic and Useful
The Trellis Trivet is full of rustic charm and functional! The pattern uses double stranded cotton for extra protection on your counter tops, and extra lift to promote airflow.
This pattern works up quickly and will make a nice quick additions for craft market inventory!
Trellis Trivet – Free Crochet Pattern
Materials
- Approx. 110 yds of double stranded #4 worsted weight yarn I used *Bernat Handicrafter Cotton in Jute
- US size J/10 6.0mm crochet hook I used my fave *Furls Odyssey hook.
- Scissors – These are my fave *scissors!
- Yarn Needle – I use these *Clover needles.

Sizing
The finished item should measure approx. 9″ x 9″. Blocking is optional but recommended.
Pattern Notes
- US Terminology
- All CH5 DO count as a ST + 2 CH’s
- Pattern is made using 2 strands of yarn at once.
Stitch Abbreviations
- CH – Chain
- SC – Single Crochet
- DC – Double Crochet
- TC – Treble Crochet
- PS – Puff Stitch
- ST(S) – Stitch(es)
- SK – Skip
- CH-SP – Chain Space
Special Stitch
Puff Stitch: Yarn over and insert your hook into the indicated stitch/space. Yarn over again and pull up a long loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch/space. Yarn over again and pull up a long loop (5 loops on hook). Yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch/space. Yarn over again and pull up a long loop (7 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on your hook. Ch 1 to close the Puff Stitch. **For this pattern count the double strand as one… it will look to be 14 loops due to the double strand**
Trellis Trivet Pattern
CH 28
Row 1: SC in second CH from hook and each CH across, CH 5, turn (27 SC).
Row 2: SK 1 ST, *TC, CH2, SK 2 STS* repeat across 8 times, CH5, turn (10TC).
Row 3: DC in first TC, CH2, PS, CH2, (DC, CH2, in next 4 TC), PS in next TC, CH2, DC in next TC, CH2, DC in 3rd CH of the turn CH, CH5, turn (8DC, 2PS).
Row 4: TC in DC, CH2, TC in PS, CH2, (TC, CH2 in next 4 DC, )TC in PS, CH2, TC, CH2 in next DC, TC in 3rd CH of the turn CH, CH5, turn (10 TC).
Row 5: Repeat Row 3.
Row 6: Repeat Row 4.
Row 7: Repeat Row 3.
Row 8: Repeat Row 4, however, DO NOT CH5, CH1 instead.
Row 9: SC in the 1st ST, *2SC in the CH-SP, SC in TC* repeat 8 times, 1 SC in CH-SP, SC in 3rd CH of the turn CH, CH1, turn (27 SC).
Row 10: Sc in each ST across, CH1, turn (27 SC).
Optional row: Row 11: SC in each ST across, tie off (27 SC).
Weave in all ends, and block if desired!
