Cute and Quick

The Wilhelmina Cup Cozy uses one of my favorite stitches, the Feather Stitch! It adds such great texture. The stitch is a bit tricky at first, but after a few it’s smooth sailing!

This cup cozy pattern works up so quickly I was whipping them up in about 17 minutes!!

My testers for this pattern had so much fun and were working them up just as quickly!

Wilhelmina Cup Cozy Free Crochet Pattern

Materials

• Approx. 34 yds worsted weight yarn in one or two colours. I used *Red Heart Roll With It Tweed, and *Red Heart Super Saver Ombre.
• US size J/10 6.0mm crochet hook I used my fave *Furls Odyssey hook.
• Scissors – These are my fave *scissors!
• Yarn Needle – I use these *Clover needles.

Size

The finished dimensions, laid flat are 4.5″ W x 4″ H

Pattern Notes

• US Terminology
• All CH 1 and 2 do not count as a stitch
• **indicates repeat sequence

Stitch Abbreviations

• CH – Chain
• SC – Single Crochet
• HDC – Half Double Crochet
• SLST – Slip Stitch
• ST(S) – Stitch(es)
• SK – Skip
• CHSP – Chain Space
• FS – Feather Stitch

Special Stitch

The Feather Stitch Yarn over, insert hook into same ch-1 space as last feather stitch, or starting HDC, yarn over and pull up a loop in line with loops on hook (3 loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook into skipped st  one row below same space, yarn over and pull up a loop in line with loops on hook (5 loops on hook) yarn over, insert hook in next ch-1 space, yarn over and pull up a loop in line with loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on the hook., Ch1 to ‘lock’ ST.

The Wilhelmina Cup Cozy Pattern

CH29

Join chain with a SLST, being careful not to twist.

Rnd 1: CH1, in 2nd CH from hook, HDC  in each CH around, SLST to first HDC (28).

Rnd 2: CH2, Skip next ST after the CH2 join, *HDC, CH1, SK next ST* repeat around, SLST after last CH1 to the top of the  CH2 to join (14).  NOTE: the last HDC will be in the last st of the round, the CH1 will NOT skip a stitch.

For a two colour cozy, change colours here to colour 2. Going forward do rnds like 1 & 2 in same colour and switch colours for the Feather Stitch rows.

Rnd 3: CH 1, HDC in the same ST as CH, FS around, SLST to the top of the first HDC of the round to join (14).

Change to colour 1

Rnd 4 : CH 1, HDC in the first HDC of the FS round, HDC in the top of the FS, *HDC in the CH space, HDC in the top of the FS* repeat around, SLST to the top of the CH to join (28).

Rnd 5: CH2, Sk first ST after CH, *HDC in next ST, CH1, SK next ST* repeat around, SLST to top of CH2 to join (14).

Change to colour 2

Rnd 6: Repeat  round 3

Change to Colour 1

Rnd 7: Repeat round 4.

Rnd 8: Repeat round 5.

Change to colour 2

Rnd 9: Repeat round 3.

Change to Colour 1

Rnd 10: CH 1, SC in the first HDC of the FS Rnd, (SC in the CH space, SC in the top of the FS) repeat around, SLST to the first SC to join, tie off (28).

Weave in all ends and you’re done!

***Alternative*** You can chose to have a shorter cozy by jumping to round 10 after round 6!
