Quick and Functional

The Dockside Bag was actually designed using a stitch pattern similar to my Any Way Skinny Wrap pattern! I loved the stitch pattern so much I knew I needed to adapt it to a bigger project that would really show off the design!

The bag is worked bottom up, first in rows and then in rounds. I designed it with a flat bottom so there would be more area space inside, making a great bag for the beach or shopping! The Body of the bag is worked in a 4 row repeat.

You can use any sort of colour combos you like, or even a gorgeous solid. You can see some of the testers colours below.

The Tester Pictures

My testers ROCKED this pattern test! I just love how they look with different colour combinations! Some of the yarns they used were: I Love This Cotton, Lion Brand 24/7 cotton, Lily Sugar and Cream, and Bernat Handicrafter Cotton.

Bring On Spring Blog Hop

The Bring On Spring Blog Hop is the very first blog by me!!

The Dockside Bag was the first to be featured design on February 1st, 2021!

The Materials

For this project I was after a durable, soft and quality cotton to hold up to good use. The lovely gang over at *Wecrochet kindly supplied the amazing *Dishie Yarn for the Dockside Bag. This yarn is amazing and if you have yet to try it out you for sure should!

I also used my trusty *Furls Odyssey! The Turquoise hook let me have that matchy-match feel I just love!

Dockside Bag Pattern

Materials

Approx. 500 – 530 yds of #4 worsted weight cotton yarn. I used *Knit Picks Dishie in Azure and Linen Linen Colour 1: Aprox. 340 yds Azure Colour 2: Aprox. 190 yds
US size I/9 – 5.5mm crochet hook. I used *Furls Odyssey
*Scissors
*Yarn needle
*Tape measure
*Stitch markers

Size

Laid flat: Approx. 17 ” tall x 16″ wide with slight stretch, not including straps

ch – Chain
sc – Single Crochet

Pattern Notes

US Terminology
All beginning ch1 and ch3 do not count as a stitch
Bag is worked bottom up. First in rows, then in rnds
Bag can be made with multiple colours or solid. To get the look of the sample, follow where I note colour changes
To adjust height add or subtract repeat rnds
*-* denotes repeat sequence

Colour Changes

These are the rows and colour changes I used for the sample bag, if you would like that look.

Base – rnd 13: C1
Rnd 14: C2
Rnd 15 – 17: C1
Rnd 18 – 37: C2
Rnd 38 – 47: C1

The Pattern

Base

Ch 8

Row 1: Sc in the second ch from hook, and each ch across, ch1, turn (7).

Row 2 – Row 49: Sc in each st across, ch1, turn (7).

Row 50: Sc in each st across, ch1 (7).

My base was approx. 13″ long unstretched.

Continuing from the ch1 of your last row

Rnd 1: Sc in the end of each row going down the side of the base, 2 sc in the corner st, rotate work to continue along the starting ch, sc in each starting ch across, 2 sc in the corner st, continue sc in the end of each row along the opposite side, 2 sc in the corner st, sc in each st across the top, 2 sc in the corner, join with a slst to the first st, ch1 (116).

Rnd 2: Sc in the same st as the ch1, sc in each st around, making 2 sc in each corner st, join with a slst to the first st, ch1 (120).

Rnd 3: Scblo in the same st as the ch1, scblo in each st around, join with a slst to the first st, ch1 (120).

Beginning the height of the bag

Rnd 4 – 5: Sc in the same st as the ch1, sc in each st around, join with a slst to the first st, ch1 (120).

Repeat Section Begins

Rnd 6: Sc in the same st as the ch1, ch5, sk 2 sts, *sc in the next st, ch5, sk 2 sts*, repeat around, join with a slst to the first st, ch3 (40 sc).

Rnd 7: *Sc in the ch5 space, ch2* repeat around, join with a slst to the 2nd ch of the beginning ch3, ch1 (40 sc).

Rnd 8: Sc in the first sc, 2 sc in the chsp, *sc in the next st, 2 sc in the chsp* repeat around, join with a slst to the first st, ch1 (120).

Rnd 9: Sc in the same st as the ch1, sc in each st around, join with a slst to the first st, ch1 (120).

Rnd 10 – 45 : Repeat rnds 6 – 9

Rnd 46: Sc in the same st as the ch, sc in each st around, join with a slst to the first st, ch1 (120).

Rnd 47: Sc in the same st as the ch, sc in each st around, join with a slst to the first st, tie off leaving long tail to weave in (120).

Strap

Make 2

Row 1: Sc in the second ch from hook, and each ch across, ch1, turn (7).

Row 2 – Row 90: Sc in each st across, ch1, turn (7).

After 90 rows sample strap was approx. 23″, unstretched. You can adjust strap length by adding or subtracting rows.

Fold the strap in half lengthwise, matching up both sides. Join yarn to one end and slst along the open end to hold closed, tie off and tuck in ends.

Attaching Straps

Lay the bag flat and count approx. 12 sts in from each side, place stitch marker. Repeat on other side of bag. Using long tail on end of the straps, sew onto the outside of the bag. I lined up the bottom of the strap just above rnd 44, and the inside of the strap with the stitch marker.

Weave in all ends and you’re done!

All Set!!!
