Dad’s Soap On A Rope – Free Pattern

Sharing is caring!

Do you remember the old soap on a rope your grandpa or dad used to get every year? I had the thought of how to recreate a reusable version of those, and came up with a pattern similar to a soap saver but less bulky, Dad’s Soap On A Rope!

Soap On A Rope

When deciding what yarn to use for this pattern I knew I wanted something a bit more sturdy than cotton. I went with Patons Hempster. It has a bit less stretch and even seems a bit more ‘manly’!

I was trying to design this so there wouldn’t be too much “rope” since traditional soap on a rope is just rope hanging from soap, it took a few tries as I was trying to make it so the soap also wouldn’t fall out when it got smaller.

My husband took the soap on a rope for some trial runs for me, and just loved it! He did use it for the life of the soap and it managed to stay in there the whole time too.

He liked that it was less “girly” than the other soap savers I have made and he said the “soap to rope ratio was perfect for just a bit of scrubbing power“.

Overall, he was very pleased and thought the fact it was made with hemp was a fun addition to the overall make!
